Q25: To discuss your resume, can you schedule a phone interview? RobDavisPE.com

ROB DAVIS, P.E.

Q25: To discuss your resume, can you schedule a longer (30 minute) phone interview with one of my assistants?

The short answer is, no, I'm unable to schedule it.

The long answer is, I'm unable to give 30-60 minutes of my time, for free, to everyone who has a telephone and wants to talk for HOURS at a time. I'm sorry, but there aren't enough free hours in the day!

I want to work with brokers who do have something specific, and are able to glean enough information from my resume and a 5-10 minute phone interview to do an effective job match. I want to work with agents who are able to assess my skills on their own, during a 5-10 minute phone call. If they have to rely on some test or assistant to tell them what to tell the client, they shouldn't be representing me. Time is my most valuable commodity. Please don't waste it!

Does this include computer-based tests? Absolutely. If the agent has to rely on some computer-based test to tell them what to tell the client, they shouldn't be representing me. Time is my most valuable commodity. Please don't waste it!

Do you really want to talk to brokers who have nothing specific?
1. Confusion. They create confusion by being significantly more persistent than the ones who would be able to help you with something specific.
2. Deception. They deceive you by pretending they can help you when they can't. And, can they help, when they don't have anything specific in the first place?
3. Unreasonableness. They make unreasonable demands on your time and info. They want them for free. Unreasonably, of course.

Examples: They say my FAQs are helpful, yet they want my time, and want it for free. They know how difficult it's to talk while at work, yet they want my time, and want it for free. They know my time is not free, yet they want it, and want it for free. They know there are not enough free hours in the day, yet they want my time, and want it for free. They know my time is worth money, yet they want my time, and want it for free. They know my business contact info is neither for sale, nor is it free. Yet they want it, and want it for free.

Real recruiters don't play games with my time, life and paycheck. Real recruiters don't try to convince me to stay on the phone for more than 10 minutes. Real recruiters want 5-10 minute phone interviews, not 30-minute computer-based tests. Real recruiters want a mutual exchange of information, not one-sided conversations, and not one-sided computer-based performance tests!
